I enjoy helping people work through challenges and heal the issues that are keeping them from feeling peace. I have a deep respect for each of my clients and believe they are the experts in their own lives — each person brings a unique situation, and together we work toward solutions that are uniquely theirs. I strive to provide a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental environment, and offer tools that help clients better understand and process what they are facing.

I have worked in the field since 2009, specializing in infidelity, Problematic Sexual Behaviors (PSB), betrayal, and sexual abuse. My experience includes individual, couple/relational, and group counseling with both those navigating PSB and those healing from betrayal. I have facilitated groups for those struggling with PSB (all genders), individuals recovering from betrayal (all genders), and relationships working to heal from infidelity, betrayal, and PSB. I also offer intensives focused on disclosure, family-of-origin work, and sexual abuse through NorthStar Relational Consultants (click here for more info).

I hold a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Clinical Sexology. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist-Supervisor (LMFT-S) in Texas and am licensed in over a dozen additional states. My specialty certifications include CST, CSAT-S, CCPS, CPTT-S, CCBRT, CCRDS-S, and RAE, along with others (see above). I am EMDR Trained with additional training in Somatic Experiencing, Psychodrama, and Post Induction Therapy (PIT). I currently serve as President of the Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health (SASH) and am a co-founder of Rocky Mountain Sexual Health Professionals (RMSHP). I am on the faculty for IITAP, where I teach the Connected Recovery™ Disclosure Model as part of the CCBRT training. I have presented at professional conferences ranging from local to international levels, including ACA, AAMFT, SASH, IITAP, APSATS, and TAMFT, and am a regular guest speaker in doctoral, graduate, and undergraduate programs. Earlier in my career, I volunteered with law enforcement for six years through the Dallas PDI (Prostitute Diversion Initiative) and as a presenter at the Dallas John School.

I created the Connected Recovery™ model — an attachment-focused framework that integrates current models in the field of PSB and Compulsive Sexual Behavior Disorder (CSBD), betrayal recovery, relational counseling through an Emotionally Focused lens, and sex therapy. My book, Healing from Betrayal, Infidelity, and Problematic Sexual Behaviors: A Guide to Individual and Relational Recovery (Routledge, 2025), outlines all three phases of the model in workbook format, offering a common language and tools for both those struggling with PSB and those healing from betrayal — without minimizing the pain of betrayal. Like all of my books, it uses gender-neutral and inclusive language and is designed to apply across genders, sexual orientations, relational structures, cultural backgrounds, and for both neurotypical and neurodiverse individuals and relationships. A closing special topics chapter also addresses parenting through recovery — including how to talk with children about sex, how to navigate disclosure with kids, and how to interrupt intergenerational patterns. To access this book and the handouts connected to it, click here. I have also published a companion set of booklets walking individuals and relationships through the disclosure process, as well as a book of Connected Recovery™ handouts. For more information about these resources and others, click here.

Originally from Massachusetts, I have also lived in New York, Washington, Idaho, Rhode Island, Texas, and now northern Utah (and Texas — I still maintain my office there). My husband and I have been married since 1997, and we have six children and a son-in-law — each of them brilliant, hilarious, and some of the kindest people I know. I love everything connected to New England and feel the pull of it every September and October, though living somewhere with four true seasons has helped. The ocean is my favorite place in the world, and the mountains are a close second — especially on rainy days when thunder literally echoes through the valley.
